The Blip

Hi there. Yesterday, I was talking to my current coworkers about the "bad job" that I had between my current employment and that other fairly pleasant organization. I was attempting to explain how absolutely severe it was there and found myself frustrated, unable to truly communicate the absurdity of it all so I offered to forward some emails that had been sent to me by my boss at the "bad job." The laughing that came from the cubicle next to mine while my coworker read the emails made me realize that all you lil bloggies out there might enjoy this reading material as well.

Just to set the scene: I had sent out a press release for a client (which we'll just call CLIENT because they really don't deserve to have their reputation ruined) before I left the office one night. The release was pasted in the body of the email and attached as a word document, as I had been instructed to do numerous times. The attachment must have been in the wrong "view" when Old Crazy Boss (who couldn't even turn on her own computer) opened it so when I came in the next morning, I had this series of emails:

email #1
This is a huge mess – what in the world have you done? If you sent it to CLIENT, might as well close the account now.

#2
Well if what arrived on my computer is what you really sent you made a total mess. It's not only a horrible mistake and embarrassing but if CLIENT gets it we're done.

#3
Didn't anybody check to see what it really looked like when it was sent? I'm shocked and upset is an understatement. What now? Has this mess been sent out – is it too late? DIdn't anybody look at it. (the attached release is what I'm referring to).

Just open this and take a look – you'll see what I mean.. When I got home and saw this I couldn't believe my eyes (that was earlier in the evening when I sent the other e-mails from my home computer). I just went into my office computer hoping that it was just the way it came across at home, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. As I think I said before…..if this has gone out (fingers crossed not) what in the world can we do?

#5
Why is this one okay (when you open the release) but the CLIENT version is messed up. And by the way, whose decision was it to attach releases? That it is a major and forever no. Nobody will open them.

#6
Please don't ever do this again. And how could you even consider it without consulting me. P.R . 101 – people do not open attachment releases. Other Idiot Boss (names have been changed but only because it's fun, not because I'm attempting to protect anyone) did you approve this and the CLIENT release? We need to talk as soon as you get in. Someone call me immediately.
p.s. How did we manage to get through last season using that format without attaching? Just unbelievable.

When Old Lady Boss arrived in the office later that day, I let her have it. Still, I did not get fired.
