little triumphs.

Our neighborhood grocery store does not carry fruits and vegetables. Instead, next door there is a tiny storefront, a Korean market of sorts, where I must go to get my fill. You see, it's really all very European.

Anyways, they've got good stuff but it's uber expensive because they know yuppies like me will pay up to get some fuji apples and brussel sprouts at the only joint in town that's selling 'em. But that's not my biggest complaint. Here it is: the lady at the counter does not like me. She smiles at the woman in front of me as she weighs potatoes and makes small talk and then when it's my turn, i stand there with a blubbering grin on my face, begging for some love from the fruit lady and i get nothing but a hard look, if that. Until yesterday.

I've really been trying to butter her up lately (ha!) and it has clearly worked. As she scanned my baby carrots, she was all smiles and even made some delighted "mmm" noises as she rang up the rest of my items. AND THEN, wait for it, she said: "would you and your prince charming like some ears of corn?" I don't care how freakin strange it is that she called M. my prince charming (he wasn't even there). The woman gave me corn! Sweet corn. And then she told me how to make but i didn't really hear because i was in such a happy place.

Well folks, it took two years but the fruit lady finally likes me, she likes me!
