candygate

Completely and entirely unrelated to lent (which starts tomorrow), i am giving up candy, starting yesterday and will continue the sugar detox until Easter when i plan to eat an absurd amount of those whopper eggs, my favorite seasonal candy, following candy corn and of course, chalk hearts.

My candy habit was just getting too serious and i was getting into the hard stuff like jelly beans and the aforementioned, nerds. Given the trouble with my teeth and my refusal to eat real food because i only want candy, i decided i could use a little cleanse. Dessert is still allowed - ice cream, cake, cookies, all fine. Anything in a wrapper, not fine.

Wish me luck!

Also, it occurs to me (and i promise i'm not trying to provoke doug and riv) but why not participate in lent? Why not teach myself some self-restraint? Isn't one of the perks of (wow, i almost just said "intermarriage") marrying a handsome Italian that we get to take the best of both religions? Some might argue that the chocolate at the end of the sugarless tunnel is the perk but I'm up for the challenge.
