a sentimental mood...

On Sunday, M. and I set out for Fort Greene, Brooklyn to check out the opening day of Brooklyn Flea, a new hipster flea market that will be open every Sunday through the summer. 200 vendors were set up on the outdoor basketball court of a high school but this was not your mother's flea market - the booths were filled with expensive antiques and even pricier art. The antique furniture was beautiful, the kind of pieces that I dream about buying and filling my home with but alas, each tiny table was hundreds of dollars. The art was awesome too, very brooklyn-centric so of course M. was head over heels and even I was starting to feel like a true Brooklynite. We saw a couple pieces that we will stalk throughout the summer until we break down and splurge.
Not all of the booths were super expensive. M. bought a big band box set of records for a $1 and there were used book stalls and silk screen t-shirts that wouldn't have killed our budget. I, of course, was drawn to a jewelery booth, where a necklace immediately caught my eye. I fought the urge to try it on but the lady selling the jewlery was just so encouraging that I couldn't resit. I put it on and she told me how great it looked and I, of course, nodded in agreement. M. apparently felt the same way. He told me "not to take it off" and handed the lady some cash before I could object. The necklace was mine before I knew it.
It wasn't expensive but can I tell you how special it was that he bought it for me, right there on the spot without a word out of my mouth - only a smile?
I love the necklace - fresh water pearls with a tiny gold-platted dove pendant - but most of all I love and so appreciate M.'s sweet gesture.
